Liam Waller, MSW, LCSWA
pronouns: he/him
trans and queer psychotherapist; social justice advocate
I am passionate about providing empowering and inclusive care for trans and non-binary individuals, LGBQ+ folx, women, BIPOC individuals, and those who live at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities. Using anti-oppressive, social justice, and trauma-informed frameworks, I collaborate with clients on their therapeutic goals and meet them where they are. I am passionate about supporting clients through identity exploration, navigating oppression, developing self-acceptance, unpacking harmful internalized trans and queer narratives, identifying strengths and support systems, cultivating community connection, and healing. As a trans and queer person committed to social justice, I deeply care about collective liberation and cultivating joy. I want all people to have what they need to lead happy, authentic, and fulfilling lives.
When working with individuals or groups, I intend to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can show up authentically and be heard. I use integrative frameworks, including Feminist/Multicultural Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness Practices. I work to bring a sense of humility and openness to feedback into sessions.
I was born and raised in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, and I am now grateful to call these mountains home. While attaining a Bachelor of Social Work degree at Appalachian State, I spent my free time organizing around social justice issues and participating in fellowships with various non-profit organizations. In the Spring of 2020, I served as an intern with OUTright Youth of Catawba Valley, where I supported LGBTQ+ youth directly at their center and through gender and sexuality alliances in local schools. While attaining my Master of Social Work degree with an Individuals and Families Concentration at Appalachian State, I served as an intern here at Evergreen Counseling and Wellness! I am beyond grateful to now serve as a licensed clinician alongside this wonderful team at Evergreen Counseling and Wellness. When I am not working, you can typically find me spending time outdoors, hiking with my two dogs Tucker and Okie, hanging out with my partner and family, photographing nature, gardening, and reading.
